DANBURY, Conn., Dec. 5, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- The Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP) this week awarded Cartus Corporation a GreenCircle Award for the company's efforts to protect the environment and natural resources. Cartus was one of just 16 Connecticut businesses and individuals to receive the award at DEEP's Hartford headquarters.
GreenCircle Award winners have a positive impact on the environment by focusing on reducing energy and water consumption, increasing recycling at their businesses, promoting conservation efforts and offering educational programming for students and families.
Cartus, steered by its Conservation Committee that is now in its 10th year, won the GreenCircle award as a result of a multi-pronged approach to protecting the environment and natural resources. Just some of the activities overseen by the Cartus Conservation Committee include:
- A rideshare program that has grown to include more than 600 riders, with the majority using rideshare on a weekly basis
- For the past 9 years, Cartus has taken part in the City of Danbury's Adopt-A-Street Program, where Cartus employees volunteer to clean a street each month from April through October
- Cartus is a member of the Staples purchasing program, which enables employees to purchase office supplies made from recycled materials.
"We are quite proud of each and every employee's extraordinary contribution to our conservation efforts and are honored to receive a GreenCircle Award," said Cartus President and CEO Kevin Kelleher. "For more than a decade Cartus has made sustainability a top priority, and it's incredibly gratifying to be acknowledged for our efforts."
Additionally, Cartus has been a signatory member of the United Nations Global Compact since 2012 and has aligned its operations and strategies with 10 universally accepted principles in the areas of human rights, labor, the environment, and anti-corruption.
Cartus' parent company, Realogy, has been named one of the World's Most Ethical Companies by Ethisphere Institute in each of the past three years.
