Carrier Sponsors 5th Annual International Summit at Greenbuild International Conference and Expo
TORONTO, Oct. 4, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Advancing its commitment to the forward deployment of green building globally, Carrier, the world's leader in high technology heating, ventilation, air-conditioning and refrigeration (HVACR) solutions and a part of United Technologies Corp. (NYSE:UTX), is proud to be the presenting sponsor of the International Summit at Greenbuild 2011. More than 500 building professionals representing 35 countries today gathered at the event to exchange ideas and learn about the latest green building strategies.
The Fifth Annual Greenbuild International Summit included a full day of breakout sessions, addressing diverse topics such as "Breakthroughs in Climate Action Plans," "Advancing Green Building Through Codes, Mandates, and Incentives," and "Sustainable Energy Solutions And The People Factor." Geraud Darnis, president and CEO, UTC Climate, Controls & Security Systems, gave the closing plenary address and highlighted three key components necessary to forward the green building movement: knowledge, economics and collaboration.
"We can look at the green movement the same way we would construct a building. Knowledge serves as the foundation -- it drives decisions when fueled by education and awareness. Economics is the framework -- it determines the success of green investments, retaining value even in difficult economic times. And collaboration is the cement that holds it all together. Like a building, success for this movement depends on strong relationships and cooperation," Darnis said in his remarks. Following his speech, members of the LEED International Roundtable, representing 18 countries, provided a one-minute overview of "What's NEXT?" for their country related to the green building movement.
Carrier has an 18-year history with green buildings and helped establish the U.S. Green Building Council in 1993. It was the first company to join the organization, and is also the only company in the world to be a founding member of the U.S., India, Argentina, China, Singapore and France Green Building Councils.
Opening the International Summit was Dr. Nils Kok, a visiting scholar at the Haas School of Business, University of California at Berkeley. Kok provided a global perspective on energy efficiency, sustainability and the implications for real estate investments. He gave a comprehensive overview of his scientific work on green building certifications and the economics of energy efficiency based on evidence from Australia, Europe and beyond.
