Carrier Ethernet Access Platform Market Forecasted to Grow 85% From $1 Billion in 2009 to $1.9 Billion in 2013, Heavy Reading Reports
Ciena, Hatteras, and Overture Lead Key CEAP Segments in 4Q09
NEW YORK, April 9 /PRNewswire/ -- Worldwide sales of carrier Ethernet access platforms rose 11 percent to $1.02 billion in 2009, according to the new Carrier Ethernet Access Platform (CEAP) Quarterly Market Tracker service published by Heavy Reading (www.heavyreading.com), the market research division of UBM TechWeb's Light Reading (www.lightreading.com). Heavy Reading projects that the global CEAP market will increase at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 16.6 percent between 2009 and 2013, reaching nearly $1.89 billion at the end of this period.
CEAP platforms include Ethernet over fiber demarcation platforms and access switches, Ethernet over bonded copper pair (G.shdsl and MIMO on DMT) solutions, and Ethernet over TDM access circuit products. While Heavy Reading expects each of the three CEAP sub-segments to have a double-digit CAGR through 2013, revenue growth for Ethernet over fiber and Ethernet over bonded copper pair platforms is likely to outpace revenue growth for Ethernet over TDM access circuit products.
"The CEAP market rebounded strongly after a sluggish start for the year and was 45 percent higher in 4Q09 than in 1Q09. All three CEAP product categories examined by Heavy Reading posted double-digit quarter-over-quarter growth in 4Q09," says Stan Hubbard, Senior Analyst at Heavy Reading and author the CEAP Quarterly Market Tracker. "Ethernet over bonded copper pair platform sales appeared to grow most rapidly in 4Q09, followed by Ethernet over fiber and then Ethernet over TDM access circuit products."
Hubbard continues, "The CEAP market is being driven by deployments related to business, residential, and – increasingly – mobile backhaul applications. The market is rather dynamic and has remained resilient throughout the economic downturn, with hundreds of operators and other entities worldwide deploying flexible, high-performance Ethernet access products to help control capital and operating costs while boosting revenue opportunities."
Heavy Reading estimates Huawei, Cisco, and Telco Systems were the top three suppliers of Ethernet over fiber access platforms for the full year 2009. The big news in recent months, however, is the dramatic rise of Ciena into the No. 1 position in 4Q09. Ciena's sales reportedly have been fueled primarily by Ethernet over fiber deployments related to mobile backhaul.
For the Ethernet over bonded copper pair segment, Hatteras Networks led the market in both 4Q09 and 2009. Adtran moved up into the No. 2 slot, while Actelis dipped to No. 3 in 4Q09 and 2009, according to Heavy Reading estimates.
Heavy Reading estimates Overture Networks maintained its solid No. 1 share position in the competitive Ethernet over TDM access circuit market in both 4Q09 and 2009. ANDA came in at No. 2, and RAD was No. 3 during these periods.
Heavy Reading's CEAP Quarterly Market Tracker delivers quarter-by-quarter revenue and market-share breakouts for profiled CEAP suppliers and revenue projections through 2013. The quarterly tracking service also analyzes each profiled vendor's market strategy and identifies and analyzes customer wins, providing granular insight into this emerging market sector unavailable from other sources. It provides a comprehensive list of more than 200 operators and other entities around the world that have purchased CEAP platforms.
The CEAP Quarterly Market Tracker provides in-depth analysis of 14 vendors that are now generating sales from CEAP products. These include: Albis Technologies, Actelis Networks, Adtran, ADVA Optical Networking, Aktino, ANDA Networks, Ciena Communications, Hatteras Networks, MRV Communications, NexComm Systems, Overture Networks, RAD Communications, Telco Systems, and Zhone Technologies.
