Carol Elder Bruce, Experienced Litigator and Former Independent Counsel, Joins Murphy & McGonigle
NEW YORK, Oct. 17, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Murphy & McGonigle, P.C. announced today that Carol Elder Bruce has joined the firm as a shareholder in its Washington, D.C. office. Ms. Bruce's arrival continues the strong trend of top litigation and regulatory talent joining the financial services law firm that was founded in 2010.
"Carol is an outstanding litigator who has served as lead counsel in a significant number of major criminal investigations and trials, both as a prosecutor in the U.S. Attorney's Office for the District of Columbia, and later as a private practice trial attorney," said James Murphy, Chairman of Murphy & McGonigle.
Ms. Bruce has a national litigation practice focusing on white-collar criminal defense and complex civil litigation. Her civil litigation experience includes representing companies and individuals in commercial or general civil disputes, civil fraud, False Claims Act, class action, antitrust, Foreign Sovereign Immunity Act cases, and Section 1983 Civil Rights Act cases. Ms. Bruce's white collar criminal case experience includes defense of individuals and companies in, among other things, fraud, public corruption, Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (FCPA), criminal False Claims Act, and Anti-Money Laundering investigations and prosecutions. She has also represented clients in hearings and proceedings before the U.S. Senate, the U.S. House of Representatives, in administrative proceedings within federal agencies, and in the conduct of internal corporate investigations. Ms. Bruce is a fellow in the American College of Trial Lawyers. She previously served for ten years as an Assistant U.S. Attorney for the District of Columbia and later as a Deputy Independent Counsel in the investigation of a sitting Attorney General and an Independent Counsel in the investigation of a sitting Secretary of the Interior, and as a Special Counsel to the U.S. Senate Select Committee on Ethics in the investigation of a sitting U.S. Senator.
