DEARBORN, Mich., June 21, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Carhartt, America’s premium workwear brand since 1889, announced today that it will expand its “Strikeouts for Vets” campaign with Madison Bumgarner to include $1,000 per home run hit by the pitcher if he is allowed to compete in baseball’s homerun competition in San Diego.
Helmets to Hardhats is a national nonprofit program that helps military service members successfully transition back into civilian life by offering them the means to secure a quality career in the building and trade industry. Carhartt has already donated $53,500 so far this season to support transitioning active-duty military service members in finding meaningful careers in the trades based on Bumgarner’s 107 Ks.
“Madison will likely end his career as baseball’s most prolific, all-time home run hitting pitcher. In addition, we have seen first-hand the power he has swinging an axe on his ranch,” said Tony Ambroza, senior vice president of marketing at Carhartt. “So we are hoping baseball will give him a chance to put on a show in San Diego and raise a lot of money for our service men and women seeking to transition into civilian life.”
Bumgarner leads all pitchers in home runs over the past three years, but what’s more impressive is how he stacks up against baseball’s reigning NL MVP and the 2014 AL MVP. As of June 6th, Bumgarner’s 11 home runs over his last 194 plate appearances equal those MVP’s numbers over the same number of at bats. His 13 career home runs as a pitcher are equal to Babe Ruth’s career numbers as a pitcher.
Carhartt became a proud supporter of Helmets to Hardhats in 2014. Carhartt's "Made In The USA" products feature tags that promote awareness for Helmets to Hardhats, and Carhartt has pledged to donate funds annually to Helmets to Hardhats, regardless of sales.
