CarGurus Appoints Sam Zales President of International and Dealer Operations
Fast-Growing Auto Shopping Site Expands Leadership Team, Poised for International Growth
CAMBRIDGE, Mass., Nov. 19, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- CarGurus (http://www.cargurus.com), a leading consumer automotive shopping website, today announced that Sam Zales has joined the company as President of International and Dealer Operations. Zales will oversee the company's international expansion and worldwide dealer sales, reporting to CarGurus' CEO, Langley Steinert. Prior to joining CarGurus, Zales was Chief Executive Officer of ClickSquared, a marketing software company that was acquired by Zeta Interactive in January 2014. He has also led fast-growth Boston-based technology companies including Zoom Information and BuyerZone.
"I am thrilled to welcome Sam Zales to the CarGurus team," said Langley Steinert, founder and CEO of CarGurus. "Sam brings extensive management experience in the high-technology market, with an impressive track record of leading fast-growth global companies. His leadership will be instrumental in strengthening our market position here in the U.S. and accelerating our growth worldwide."
CarGurus was founded in 2006 by Steinert (also a co-founder of TripAdvisor) and has grown to become one of the most popular consumer automotive shopping websites in the U.S., with more than 11 million unique monthly users. The site uses proprietary algorithms to help shoppers easily search available car listings and find great deals from top-rated local dealers. The rankings for CarGurus' organic listings search results for consumers are strictly data-driven and unbiased, but dealers can pay for advertising packages that offer additional site exposure and help drive customer contacts to dealers. The company currently works directly with more than 3,500 auto dealerships in the U.S.
"CarGurus has established itself as a true game changer among consumers and car dealers alike, and I am excited to be a part of this next chapter of growth and expansion," said Sam Zales. "As we continue to demonstrate exponential growth for CarGurus here in the United States, we have an extraordinary opportunity to bring CarGurus' unique offering to new markets. I look forward to working with this innovative team to see that vision through."
With more than 25 years of executive management and leadership experience in the technology and marketing industries, Sam Zales has served in a variety of roles with global brands. Prior to his leadership roles at ClickSquared and Zoom Information, Zales was President and CEO of BuyerZone.com, an online marketplace for business purchasing that he led from early stage through 6 years of monthly growth in revenue and profitability to its successful acquisition by Reed Elsevier in 2007. Sam also held roles at American Express and Bain & Company. He holds an MBA from the Kellogg School at Northwestern University and a B.A. from Dartmouth College.
