Cargill kicks off annual hunger relief campaign in Memphis
Eighteenth annual food basket initiative to help hundreds of families in need
MEMPHIS, Tenn., Aug. 23, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- On Monday, August 27, Cargill will gather with more than 32 other local companies, and kick-off its annual hunger relief campaign.
This is the 18th year Cargill is leading the initiative, which brings together local companies, government agencies and nonprofit organizations to create and deliver food baskets for families in need.
"This initiative is an opportunity for us to come together as a community and make a real difference for those most in need this season," said Ruth Banks, leader of the Memphis Community Food Basket Initiative and marine tower operator at Cargill's Corn Milling facility in Memphis. "Without our community partners, we would not be able to see the growth in the number of families being assisted. We are blessed to do what we do collectively to serve our community."
The 2012 Memphis Community Food Basket Initiative will run on November 16, 2012 with the delivery of non-perishable food items to the Memphis Business Depot Park where volunteers will begin packaging the meals. It will continue through Tuesday, Nov. 20, when the food baskets will be delivered in time for Thanksgiving.
