In 2012, CareSpot orchestrated a strategic initiative focused on improving patient satisfaction and streamlining operations to establish and brand a unique, innovative consumer experience at each center. In collaboration with PatientPoint, CareSpot ushered in a new era of digital technology with the release of its online and mobile patient portal fully integrated to NextGen, the practice management platform in place at all CareSpot centers. The technology allows patients to find the closest and most convenient location, compare wait times, 'save a spot' in line for same-day visits, schedule future appointments, and complete most pre-registration forms online to reduce time spent at a center. Since its release, some CareSpot locations have experienced as much as 30 percent of appointments scheduled by patients through the online and mobile patient portal.
With the introduction of the PatientPoint Electronic Check-In tablets, CareSpot further establishes a consistent experience from pre-care to point of care. Prior to launch, patient registration was a manual process. Upon arrival, patients filled out paper forms, which a staff member then transferred to the practice management system and into the scheduling application.
Currently, the Electronic Check-In utilization rate is 84 percent since implementation. The PatientPoint Check-In tablets now streamline the patient intake process by integrating with the existing PatientPoint online and mobile platform and NextGen to eliminate manual operations and minimize inefficient paper forms and processes, thereby creating a more meaningful visit between clinician and patient.
"Integrating the PatientPoint Care Coordination Platform with CareSpot.com and our patient intake process has enabled us to offer a better customer experience," said Mike Lakeman, chief information officer at CareSpot. "This functionality not only meets patients' needs prior to arriving at check-in, but also provides a better workflow for our employees. We plan to expand PatientPoint into more markets and cities, which will afford us further efficiency and offer patients a more convenient experience."
"PatientPoint is proud of the long-term partnership we have with CareSpot. CareSpot is an excellent example of the solutions PatientPoint offers in helping healthcare providers improve the coordination and delivery of patient care for better outcomes," said Raj Toleti, president of Coordinated Care Solutions and chief technology officer for PatientPoint. "Given the results of healthcare reform and the millions of additional people seeking healthcare, there is tremendous demand for services of this kind. Automating critical workflow not only benefits CareSpot, but it also gives its clinicians more time to engage with patients."
