DAYTON, Ohio, July 24, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- In the first half of 2017, the CareSource Foundation awarded $378,000 to 55 nonprofit organizations throughout Ohio. Since 2006, the CareSource Foundation has awarded over 1,130 grants and invested nearly $15 million into nonprofit organizations to strengthen families and support communities throughout Ohio.
The CareSource Foundation provides grants to nonprofits who are working to eliminate poverty, provide services to low and moderate-income families, build healthier communities and develop innovative approaches to address significant social issues.

CareSource Foundation Grants Highlights
- Good Neighbor House (Dayton) provides health, nutrition, education and human services to over 42,000 individuals in the Dayton area. The organization is a human services safety net organization that offers a variety of support including food assistance, dental care, financial counseling and wellness classes. The CareSource grant of $10,000 will provide operational support for existing programs.
- The Health Disparities Collaborative of Ohio (Columbus) is a new organization made up of agencies, organizations and individuals concerned about minority and multicultural health, health equity and social justice. The CareSource grant of $8,000 will provide support for building local and state infrastructure to reduce health disparities in minority communities.
- Live Healthy Appalachia (Athens) promotes healthy eating and active living through community partnerships and educational opportunities. The CareSource grant of $7,000 will provide support for "Cooking Up a Stronger Community," a community outreach program that will initially serve Athens County, where 20 percent of residents are Medicaid eligible.
- Universal Health Care Action Network of Ohio (Statewide) UHCAN Ohio's mission is to achieve high quality, affordable health care of all Ohioans by advocating for the consumer in the policymaking process. The CareSource grant of $15,000 will provide technology and communication support to aid in their advocacy work.
