MINNEAPOLIS, Feb. 6, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- This week, 33 students from the Gustavus Adolphus college in St. Peter are taking their studies off campus to Minneapolis for an intense 3-day career boot camp training. Sponsored by Gustavus Women in Leadership (GWIL) and organized by Minneapolis-based CareerPrep partners Audra Emerson and Sara Wegmann, the second annual career-builder experience connects liberal arts students to career opportunities in business. This year's Twin Cities business hosts include: Optum, Intereum, SixSpeed, Gravie, Greater Twin Cities United Way, Boom Lab, Target and US Bank.
Since 2016, CareerPrep founders Emerson and Wegmann have provided private career coaching, while collaborating with Minnesota-based businesses and colleges to facilitate career development classes, trainings, and boot camps, like the GWIL Scholars event. The duo's innovative training approach was designed to create more interactive, experiential career development programs for emerging professionals.
"For most students, career development happens exclusively on campus, with companies recruiting and interviewing on site, and students rarely setting foot into a potential employer's office until the final interview," says Wegmann. "Our approach takes development opportunities off campus and into the communities where Minnesota's young professionals will live, work and serve."
With a passion for gender equity, Emerson and Wegmann will help deliver more than 30 presentations, panel discussions, tours, and skill build workshops all with a focus on helping develop the careers of emerging women leaders. The 2018 GWIL Scholars agenda includes:
- Employers' Perspective on the Hiring Process
- Branding, Marketing and Selling Yourself
- Gustavus Alumni Career Panels
- Salary Negotiations, Strategies + Role Play
- Speed Networking and Mock Interviews
Minnesota colleges and universities have a huge career development advantage because the Twin Cities employer community is healthy, robust, and engaged. With 17 Fortune 500 companies, a growing start-up network, successful midsize companies, and over 25,000 non-profits, the Minneapolis/St. Paul continues to support a desirable base of prospective employers.
