WALTHAM, Mass., Sept. 18, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- In honor of National Nanny Recognition Week (September 22 – 28), Care.com (http://www.care.com/), the world's largest online care destination, has determined the best U.S. places to be a nanny. Care.com produced the list of top 15 nanny hot spots, using an array of criteria. Because being a nanny is such an involved and complex job, factors like pay rate, job availability and employment benefits were balanced with elements like kid-friendly activities and thriving nanny communities.

"With more than one million full- and part-time nannies in the U.S. alone registered on our website, Care.com is a prominent authority in the industry," said Katie Herrick Bugbee, parenting expert and senior managing editor, Care.com. "In creating this list, we were inspired by all of the heartwarming and positive stories from nannies around the country who truly love where they live and what they do."
San Francisco tops the list hitting all the criteria. Not only do San Francisco nannies make the most money in the country (an average of $15.37 per hour), but it's also a booming city, with ample opportunities to get hired by families. "In San Francisco, you can always find a job. There are so many families looking for nannies," says San Francisco nanny Stef Tousignant, who runs AskaNanny.com. "The families in San Francisco are the best to work for – they are open-minded, compassionate and hardworking themselves – which makes for awesome kids to take care of."
According to Care.com's findings, the second best place to be a nanny is Washington, D.C., which has the largest nanny support group in the country (the Association of DC Area Nannies) and lots of opportunities to become a professional nanny. Kellie Geres, a nanny for almost 25 years, says "Being a nanny in D.C. has been one of the best experiences. There is an acceptance here, where I'm not looked upon as just hired help, or a babysitter."
Rounding out the top three spots is Minneapolis. Becky Kavanagh, a nanny for 23+ years and the co-president of the International Nanny Association, secretary of Twin Cities Professional Nannies and placement counselor at Nannies from the Heartland, says, "The Minneapolis area is extremely family-friendly and nannies are generally respected and appreciated as career professionals."
Other cities included in Care.com's top 15 list are Boston, Austin, New York City, Denver, Seattle, San Jose, Chicago, Dallas, Raleigh, Atlanta, Phoenix and Baltimore. And, to celebrate U.S. nannies during this special holiday, Care.com is offering 20 percent off premium memberships with code NANNY20 for the duration of Nanny Recognition Week.
