With more than 2 million military veterans expected to transition to the civilian workforce by 2016, the need for supports and opportunities for this community has become a national issue. According to Admiral Michael Mullen, retired Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff and member of FWI's Board of Directors, "Our veterans are returning home to a tough economy, and yet, they are of an extraordinary generation with great potential to continue to make a remarkable difference in the workplace."
"The high military spouse unemployment rate isn't just about a tough job market and it certainly isn't a lack of relevant skills. We need to educate employers about the benefits of employing military spouses and get more to do so," said Donna Levin, Co-Founder and Vice President, Government Relations and Partnerships. "Thousands of military families took advantage of our Appreciation Efforts in May and June, accessing Care.com's services for free whether it was to find care or find caregiving jobs. Many of the caregivers we list are military spouses. Care.com also employs a number of military spouses on our Care Force, the team of parents that review all potential individual caregivers. Given what military families do for all of us, Care.com is honored to be supporting them."
Care.com is being recognized for the following programs and contributions:
- Care.com
For their offer of a free one-year premium Care.com subscription service to active duty military families during Military Appreciation Month; and for identifying a synergy between their staffing model and the employment needs of military spouses.
Deborah Mullen, Military Family Advocate and member of FWI's Board, emphasizes that, "The past eleven years of war have seen unprecedented service and sacrifice by our nation's military families. Many have endured long separations fraught with anxiety over the safety of their loved ones serving in harm's way. As these families return to communities across our country, we should recognize their service and sacrifice and make every effort to help them achieve a successful transition."
