Care Improvement Plus Receives Approval for 2012 Medicare Health Plans, Including Six-State Expansion
One million Medicare beneficiaries across Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, New Mexico, New York, and Wisconsin to have access to plan's industry-leading model of care
BALTIMORE, Sept. 8, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Care Improvement Plus, operator of the largest chronic conditions special needs plan in the United States, will offer health plan services to more chronically ill and underserved Medicare beneficiaries next year, having secured approval from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services of its 2012 Medicare health plan contracts in six additional states in advance of the upcoming Medicare open enrollment period.
"Care Improvement Plus is dedicated to supporting chronically ill and underserved Medicare beneficiaries, delivering high quality benefits and services to ensure they receive the best care for their health needs," said Frederick C. Dunlap, chairman and chief executive officer of XLHealth, which owns and operates Care Improvement Plus. "We see 2012 as a year of acceleration for Care Improvement Plus, anticipating significant growth while continuing to support our existing members through our robust model of care."
Care Improvement Plus' service area will include select counties in six new states in 2012: Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, New Mexico, New York and Wisconsin. With the expansion, more than 1 million additional Medicare beneficiaries will be eligible to join Care Improvement Plus, which will open enrollment in these states on Oct. 15, 2011 for services effective January 1, 2012.
"We've been working hard to get the word out to providers and community representatives about Care Improvement Plus' intention to offer its unique brand of Medicare plans in these new service areas," continues Dunlap. "In many instances, it is the first time that a chronic conditions special needs plan will be made available to area Medicare beneficiaries, and we look forward to releasing our plan benefits in October."
Medicare open enrollment comes and ends early this year, beginning Oct. 15, 2011 and lasting only until Dec. 7, 2011. In past years, Medicare-eligible individuals had until the end of the year to evaluate Medicare options and make decisions regarding coverage.
