WAUKESHA, Wis., May 12, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Cardiac Science, an Opto Circuits group company and a global leader in AEDs, is proud to announce today that the Powerheart® G5 AED era has arrived in the United States and Canada, representing both a technological milestone in the AED industry and the company's latest tool in fighting the world's No. 1 killer: sudden cardiac arrest (SCA).

SCA continues to leave a deadly imprint on the United States, killing more than 369,000 people a year, according to the American Heart Association, and shattering the lives of family members and communities in the process. AEDs need to be in the hands of the public, and the Powerheart G5* is the first FDA-cleared AED to combine fully automatic shock delivery, dual-language functionality, variable escalating energy, and fast shock times to help rescuers save an SCA victim's life.
"Every day there is an instance where an AED has made, or would have made, the difference between life or death," said Al Ford, Cardiac Science General Manager and Senior Vice President of Sales / Marketing. "Cardiac Science has pioneered life-saving AED technology for over 20 years, and the Powerheart G5 is the next chapter."
Easy to Use
The Powerheart G5 allows both professional and first-time users to swiftly provide effective, life-saving therapy. Even first-time responders can perform a rescue with user-paced instruction from patented RescueCoach™ voice and text prompts. Pads can be placed on either side of a victim's chest, and the Powerheart G5 only provides an automatic shock** when it is required. With a touch of a button, rescuers may change the voice prompts to an alternate language without restarting or delaying the rescue.
Advanced Technology
During a rescue, the Powerheart G5 uses variable escalating energy to deliver customized energy needed to a patient. Defibrillation energy automatically escalates if additional shocks are needed with a fast shock time of 10 seconds or less. If more than one shock is required, the AED does not repeat the same effort. Rather, it increases the energy input to an appropriate higher level.
Reliable
The Powerheart G5 will be ready when called upon thanks to the highly visible Rescue Ready® indicator that communicates rescue status and confirms that the internal circuitry, medical-grade battery, and rescue pads have passed daily, weekly, and monthly self-tests. The Powerheart G5 has an 8-year warranty and a 4-year performance guarantee on Intellisense® medical-grade non-rechargeable batteries.
Rugged
The Powerheart G5 is tough: The durable AED has been tested to military standards and features an IP55 rating for protection against dust and water.
"When comparing the Powerheart G5 and G3 to the other AEDs on the market, I believe Cardiac Science now has the best two AEDs in the industry," said Ford. "This two-prong product strategy will allow us to enhance our position in the AED industry, and, most importantly, continue to help save lives."
*The Powerheart G5 AED is not available in every country. Please check for local availability.
**The Powerheart G5 fully automatic AED is not available for sale in Canada.
