BOSTON, Nov. 19, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Carbonite, Inc. (NASDAQ: CARB), a leading provider of cloud solutions that keep small businesses and home offices running smoothly, today announced that it has eliminated its throttling policies and expanded its bandwidth capability.

"We know that our customers have a lot of data – from the files that help them run their business to family photos – and they need it backed up quickly," said David Friend, founder and CEO, Carbonite. "We agree, and are delighted to announce that the capability of our customers to achieve faster upload speeds is greatly improved."
Carbonite Increases Home Bandwidth Capabilities
As a result of the increase in upload bandwidth, new Carbonite Home users can now achieve the same upload speed as Carbonite Business users. The average small business can back up all of their business email, contacts and calendars in about 70 minutes (assuming an average 5GB Outlook .pst file), and a new Carbonite Home customer can now back up two hours of HD video in less than an hour.
200GB Throttling Cap Removed
Carbonite has also removed the 200GB throttling cap for new Carbonite Home users, so they can experience the same upload speed capabilities from the first gigabyte of their backup to the last. Over the next several months, this change will be rolled out to existing Carbonite Home customers with backups greater than 200GB.
A History of Responding to Customer Feedback
Updating its speed and throttling policies is just the latest example of how Carbonite responds to customer feedback. To improve customer support, Carbonite moved all of its support operations from overseas and opened its Lewiston, ME support center, creating nearly 200 jobs. Carbonite Business was introduced as a response to small businesses asking for a product that made it easy to back up all of their business data and devices. And just recently, when Carbonite Business customers and resellers asked for database and server backup solutions, Carbonite launched Enhanced Server Backup and announced a beta program for appliances that offer a local and cloud backup hybrid.
"We owe our success to a user base that trusts us with their critical business files, important documents and precious memories," continued Friend. "We will continue to innovate so we can both improve our existing products and develop new ones that protect your data and keep small businesses around the world running smoothly."
Since its founding in 2005, Carbonite has backed up more than 300 billion files and recovered more than 20 billion files that would have otherwise been lost forever. The company currently has more than 100 petabytes of customer data in its datacenters.
