WAYNE, N.J., Nov. 10, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Whether it's talking about the latest debate or family plans for the holidays, drivers and their passengers typically make good use of their time in the car by catching up on the latest happenings. Hankook Tire asked Americans just what are the most popular topics of discussion when it comes to the driver-passenger dynamic.
According to its latest Gauge Index, Hankook found that Americans are more apt to discuss topics from the home front as forty percent (40%) say personal or family gossip is the most popular topic in the car. Of those looking to dig up the dirt on family members, seventy percent (70%) are female and thirty percent (30%) are male. As for the topic at the bottom of the list, the 2016 presidential race doesn't seem to be turning anyone's heads as thirty-nine percent (39%) of Americans say politics is the topic that they would want to discuss the least in the car.
There may be an explanation behind politics' lack of popularity as this topic is notorious for manifesting in to fiery conversation. And for many Americans, this is an obstacle that is aimed to be avoided. According to the Gauge, thirty-five percent (35%) of Americans believe getting into a heated argument with a driving companion is the biggest fear on the road. But despite the various emotions conversation may spur during the car ride, talking itself is enough to keep Americans happy, as thirty-eight percent (38%) say that having someone to talk to is what they like most about having a driving companion.
"Our quarterly Hankook Gauge Index continually provides valuable and unique insights into Americans' driving behaviors," said Henry Kopacz, Public Relations and Social Media Manager, Hankook Tire America Corp. "These recent results give us an interesting perspective on what Americans are generally interested in discussing with their driving companions, whether it's in the everyday car pool or a long road trip."
The Hankook Tire Gauge Index is a quarterly survey of Americans that uncovers their attitudes and opinions about all things related to driving. The fall installment of the survey, conducted August 26-27, 2015, polled 1,000 randomly selected Americans on fall driving behaviors and what is on their minds during their routine and special driving trips.
