Capital BlueCross Secret Santa program brightens holiday season for 600 children
More than 33,000 children have received gifts through the years
HARRISBURG, Pa., Dec. 2, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Capital BlueCross employees donned in festive holiday sweaters and accessories will continue the company's tradition of giving when they pack up more than 600 donated gifts destined for underprivileged children from 9:30-11:30 a.m. on Friday, Dec. 5, at the company's headquarters at 2500 Elmerton Ave., Harrisburg.
The Capital BlueCross program, known as Secret Santa, has brought smiles to the faces of more than 33,000 children through the years in Cumberland, Dauphin, Lancaster, Perry and York counties.
"At Capital BlueCross, our employees have a long history of donating their time and resources to help people and families who find themselves in need," said Amy Nilsen, Capital BlueCross manager of Community Relations. "Our Secret Santa program is one of the most popular ways our employees give. When you see hundreds of gifts surrounding the towering Christmas tree in our lobby, you quickly appreciate just how much caring and thought goes into this program. We're delighted to help bring holiday cheer to so many children each year."
Gifts are currently being placed by employees around a tall, decorated Christmas tree in the atrium of the company's headquarters. The gifts are so plentiful each year that they extend a number of feet from the tree stand.
Capital BlueCross employees who volunteer to participate in Secret Santa receive a holiday tag with the first name, age and gender of a child, along with the child's toy and/or clothing wish list. Then, on their personal time, employees purchase gifts for the child they receive. The gifts are delivered by Children and Youth agency caseworkers and Salvation Army volunteers in time for the children to unwrap and enjoy on Christmas morning.
