Capital BlueCross presents health care forums focusing on living happier, longer
Internationally known author Dan Buettner talks about Blue Zones® concept for longevity, well-being
HARRISBURG, Pa., May 14, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Capital BlueCross is presenting two regional health care forums focusing on the Blue Zones concept for living happier and living longer. The forums are slated for 9-11:30 a.m. on May 15 at the Hershey Lodge and Convention Center, and then 2:30-5 p.m. on May 16 at ArtsQuest at SteelStacks in Bethlehem, Pa.
Blue Zones is a concept discovered by internationally recognized author and researcher Dan Buettner, who is the keynote speaker for both programs. Buettner studied communities throughout the world where people have lived measurably better in terms of longevity, happiness and wellness. He then identified nine lifestyle characteristics (known as Power 9®) shared by the residents of each community.
"Every year we conduct health care forums to share the latest concepts in how people can take charge of their health, improve their lifestyle and have a positive influence on their family and friends," said Gary D. St. Hilaire, Capital BlueCross President & CEO. "The Blue Zones concept is a proven, healthy way of life that we are excited to share with our community partners and group customers. The Blue Zones teach us that together we can make small adjustments to our lives that will have a positive outcome on our well-being and the health of our communities."
Examples of the Power 9 include finding ways to reduce stress, putting loved ones first and keeping family nearby, and living with a sense of purpose.
The forums will also feature a group discussion with representatives of Rodale Inc., The Milton Hershey School and the Pennsylvania Medical Society. These companies will share the positive experiences their employees are having by executing some of the Blue Zones Power 9 characteristics.

Attendance at the forums is by invitation only for Capital BlueCross business partners and group customers, and closed to the general public. The news media is invited to cover the forums.
