Capital BlueCross Hosts Free Public Seven-Week Clinic to Help People Earn Their Freedom From Smoking
HARRISBURG, Pa., Jan. 7 /PRNewswire/ -- The New Year always brings with it promises and commitment of lifestyle changes, many of which are often challenging to meet. That's why Capital BlueCross is partnering with the local American Lung Association to help people quit smoking by offering a free seven-week nicotine cessation clinic from 6-8 p.m. Mondays Jan. 18-March 1, 2010 and Wednesday, Feb. 10, 2010. The clinic will be held at Wesley United Methodist Church, 450 Sylvan Street Extension, Marysville, Pa.
The group clinic called Freedom from Smoking methodically addresses all of the challenges and choices that smokers typically face when attempting to kick the habit. Starting with "developing a quitting plan," certified Capital BlueCross health educators will coach attendees through such topics as "dealing with recovery symptoms," "controlling your weight," "managing stress through relaxation techniques," "fighting the urge to start smoking again," "learning about cessation medications," and "practicing lifestyle changes that make quitting easier."
"One of the best ways to help someone kick a habit is by offering support, and that is what Capital BlueCross is doing by providing this free nicotine cessation clinic," said Amy Wixted, Capital BlueCross health educator. "We will be there for the attendees every step of the way, answering their questions, providing educational materials and encouraging them to succeed. Resolving to quit smoking is so very important, especially when you consider that smoking-related diseases claim an estimated 438,000 lives in America each year."
Seats are limited for this clinic, so people who are interested in participating should reserve their spot by calling 717-703-8575 or by going to https://www.capbluecross.com/BHW/NicotineCessation. The deadline to sign up is Jan. 13, 2010. You do not need to be a Capital BlueCross member to participate.
