Cape Cod Symposium on Addictive Disorders, Hyannis, Sept 10-13: Ex-White House Drug Policy Spokesman Robert Weiner to Speak on "Generating Positive Press and Countering Negative Issues"
COUNTRY'S TOP BEHAVIORAL CONFERENCE DRAWS OVER 1200 SPECIALISTS TO RESORT AND CONFERENCE CENTER AT HYANNIS
"WITH NATIONAL TREATMENT GAP AT 24 MILLION, THE SAME FOR THREE DECADES, IT'S TIME FOR THE NATION TO UNDERSTAND THE IMPORTANCE OF EXPANDING SUCCESS," WEINER ASSERTS
HYANNIS, Mass., Sept. 9, 2015 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Former White House National Drug Policy Spokesman Robert Weiner will present a session on "Generating Positive Press and Countering Negative Issues" at the upcoming Hyannis country's top behavioral conference with over 1200 specialists September 10-13, at the Resort and Conference Center at Hyannis. The conference is the 28th Annual Cape Cod Symposium on Addictive Disorders.
"With a national treatment gap of 24 million, the same for three decades, it's time for the nation to understand the importance of expanding success and reach. Since two-thirds of arrestees test positive for illegal substances, taking action will not only provide working taxpayers to the nation but is perhaps the best way to reduce the crushing problems of over-incarceration, prison overcrowding, and constant state budget crises. To this point, we have been penny-wise and pound foolish. Of course, this is a problem population that has some recidivism and worse. But the experts and providers in the field are the superheroes, and they need national policy assistance. Those are the messages that need to be evoked widely and loudly. "
"CCSAD" has 60 challenging sessions and over 90 professional faculty. Last year's conference had more than 1200 participants from nine countries and 46 states. Conference organizers Dee McGraw and Jennifer Ramos report that this year's conference will be even bigger.
Attendees include physicians, nurses, psychologists, private practitioners, employee assistance professionals, social workers, DOT/SAP professionals, chemical dependency and other counselors, marriage and family therapists, rehabilitation counselors, alcoholism and drug abuse counselors, sponsors, exhibitors, and more.
Weiner will be available for the entire conference and presents his talk, including Q&A and audience interaction and discussion of their own examples, on Saturday, September 12, from 4-5:30 ("Session 377").
His session is formally titled, "Generating Maximum and Positive Press (TV, Radio, Print, Online) for Your Event and Mission, Using It as a Recruiting and Fundraising Tool, and Countering Negative Issues by Positive Message." The program states, "From his experience at the top of government and down-to-earth onsite at events, Bob will provide overall strategies and case studies of government and private national and field events that generated major media and how it happens. He will candidly discuss threats and negative messages by opposition (NIMBY, or methadone-as-another-drug, or deaths by high-risk clients blamed on an organization, etc.), and how to handle those before and after criticism."
Weiner congratulated Ric Ohrstrom and Gary Colby, Co-Chairs of C4 Recovery Solutions, the parent group of the conference, for "outstanding vision and leadership," and thanked them and organizer Dee McGraw for inviting him to present.
Media may wish to come beginning with the opening Reception, 5:30-7PM Thursday, September 10.
