CAP CEO James L. Weidner Elected Chair of the Physician Insurers Association of America
LOS ANGELES, May 19 /PRNewswire/ -- The Cooperative of American Physicians, Inc. (CAP) today announced that Chief Executive Officer James L. Weidner has been elected chair of the Physician Insurers Association of America (PIAA), a leading trade association representing domestic and international medical professional liability insurance companies owned and/or operated by physicians, hospitals, dentists, and other health care providers. The election took place during the organization's annual meeting held recently in Chicago.
"We are pleased to announce the appointment of James L. Weidner as PIAA chair for the upcoming year," said Lawrence E. Smarr, president of the PIAA. "His experience and depth of knowledge in insurance and patient safety will be extremely valuable as we continue to work in support of our member companies."
Mr. Weidner has been on the PIAA board since 2002, most recently serving as the association's vice chair. In his new role as chair, he will have general oversight of the business of the association, and supervision of the other officers of the board, as well as the president of the association.
