SALT LAKE CITY, Nov. 3, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Canvas, the open online learning management system (LMS) by Instructure that makes teaching and learning easier, today announced that it has partnered with several best-of-breed, standards-aligned content providers to enable teachers to easily pull content into their Canvas classrooms. Knowing that finding good K–12 content can be difficult, the Canvas team is now working with content providers specifically designed for K–12 settings, like Discovery Education and BrainPOP, so teachers can access expertly vetted materials for their classes.
"Finding good content for K–12 classrooms is tricky, and often educators spend considerable time and energy searching for content that will not only fit into their curriculum, but engage their students," said Melissa Loble, VP of partners and platforms at Instructure. "At Instructure, we want to reduce this selection time so teachers can devote their attention to their students' learning and individual needs."
Canvas simplifies teaching by providing the best option for content on an intuitive LMS platform that's easy for educators, administrators, parents, and students to navigate. These new content partnerships also immerse students in learning by engaging them in high-quality educational resources. This broad range of recent partnerships brings an unprecedented level of content to the K–12 market.
One of the newest Canvas partnerships is with Discovery Education, the leading provider of digital content and professional development for K-12 classrooms. The number one integrations requested by K–12 Canvas clients are Discovery Education's streaming services and their math, social studies, and science digital textbooks, or Techbooks, which are empowering educators to transform static, print-focused classrooms into modern, engaging, learning environments.
"Discovery Education is pleased to partner with Canvas," said Joan Kelly-Smith, Discovery Education's SVP of account services. "Our resources seamlessly integrate into Canvas in a way that helps teachers spend more time on supporting the success of their students, and less time navigating their LMS."
Canvas also recently partnered with BrainPOP to offer K–8 interactive content (highly popular among students) that brings substantially greater gains in reading, language comprehension, and science. Canvas also partnered with Nearpod, an app that allows teachers to create digital lesson plans, share those plans with students during class, and track individual progress.
Other partnerships with third-party content providers include Knovation, CK–12, Boundless, Florida Virtual School, and GPA Learn.
