SALT LAKE CITY, Feb. 21, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- Canvas by Instructure (NYSE:INST), a leading software-as-a-service (SaaS) technology company that makes software that makes people smarter, announced that it is now IMS Conformance Certified in the Caliper Analytics®1.1 standard. This certification is part of Canvas' commitment to comply with standards, as they enable technology solutions to collect and share data to fuel educational analytics in meaningful ways.
Because the Canvas team believes so strongly in the development and advancement of technology standards across the education industry, it was closely involved in the development of this standard with the IMS Global Learning Consortium. This deep collaboration between influential education institutions, educational technology providers, and other key players ensures the educational industry is advancing in powerful technology for analytics.
"At Canvas, we believe that analytics are important to promoting continuous improvement in education," said Melissa Loble, VP of platform and partnerships at Canvas by Instructure. "We are excited to implement the IMS Caliper standard in an open technology approach, as it shows great momentum in enabling technologies to provide deep analytics to the educational institutions and teachers who need them to provide better instruction."
Canvas clients will benefit from the learning management system (LMS) platform's implementation of the Caliper standard, as they will be able to access and utilize data from Canvas to improve the student learning experience, and ultimately, student success. This open approach to analytics helps Canvas' thousands of education partners drive improved student performance through dynamic data interpretation and metrics.
As part of this standard, Canvas has also developed Live Events, a tool that allows information to be pushed out from Canvas to teachers and administrators automatically, or in a live stream. Live Events ensures the metrics made open through Caliper Analytics 1.1 can be provided to important parties in real time. This ensures teachers have the information they need to determine whether their students are being successful or need further assistance.
"Caliper enables real-time event streams of learning data to be rich and consistent, and these standards are critically important in the Unizin Data Platform from Unizin's major partners," said Rob Lowden, Interim CEO at Unizin, Ltd. "We are delighted that Instructure has swiftly achieved Caliper 1.1 certification as Unizin continues to grow as a large-scale learning lab for our members."
