Candidates for Governor Stake Out Campaign and Government Reform Positions
SPRINGFIELD, Ill., Sept. 15 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Voters now have a one-stop source for information about where the candidates for Governor stand on campaign and government reform issues.
Voters can go to the CHANGE Illinois! website (www.ChangeIL.org) for a comparison of the candidates' answers to 20 straightforward questions about reform proposals.
CHANGE Illinois! asked every candidate for their positions on a wide range of issues, including limits on campaign contributions by legislative leaders, public campaign financing, ethics investigations, judicial selection, term limits, redistricting, lobbying and open government.
The answers from all five candidates for Governor and the five candidates for Lieutenant Governor were posted Wednesday. Answers from candidates for the General Assembly and other statewide offices will be posted next week.
The questionnaire was developed with the help of eight reform organizations: the Better Government Association, Business and Professional People for the Public Interest, Chicago Appleseed Fund for Justice, Citizen Advocacy Center, Common Cause Illinois, Illinois Campaign for Political Reform, Illinois Public Interest Research Group, and Protestants for the Common Good.
Organizations and individuals in the CHANGE Illinois! coalition hold a range of positions on issues of importance to Illinois. The coalition as a whole supports expanding the enacted campaign contribution limits to include contributions by legislative leaders and political parties to candidates in the general election, and it supports increased transparency and public involvement as the boundary lines for legislative districts are adjusted following the 2010 Census.
"On some of the issues addressed in the survey, there is not an official 'coalition position,' but all of us agree it is critical for ALL candidates to answer these questions and to let voters know what they propose to do to make Illinois government honest and fair," said Cynthia Canary, Director of the Illinois Campaign for Political Reform.
