Cancun's City of Joy Foundation Receives a Generous Donation from Travel Supplier TUI
City of Joy is a non-profit foundation helping Quintana Roo, Mexico's Underserved Population
CANCUN, Mexico, Feb. 8 /PRNewswire/ -- Founded in 2000, the City of Joy Foundation (Fundacion Ciudad de la Alegria) supports individuals and families who live in Cancun and the state of Quintana Roo. These people often work in the hospitality industry but find themselves coming up short in supporting their family's needs. The 12 acre compound located just outside the city of Cancun provides education, healthcare, legal support and a wide range of other services for needy families in collaboration with a network of charitable organizations. It does this with the mission of keeping families together and providing resources to live a dignified life. Together, the organizations in the City of Joy help more than 20,000 people a year and the Foundation provides more than $450,000 USD per year to these non-profit organizations to sustain homes, pay utilities, and provide services.
Many travel industry partners support the work of City of Joy with financial contributions. This past year TUI (which comprises Signature Vacations in the North American market), donated in excess of $23,000 and they have consistently provided support to City of Joy for the past five years.
The newest addition to the City of Joy is the Mano Amiga School for children. The school helps educate more than 1,000 children whose families have an annual income of less than $450 per month. The money donated by TUI is specifically going to support this project and to help purchase additional supplies and materials for the school and its students. Other City of Joy projects include:
- Bread and Blanket Shelter
- Women's Shelter
- Home for Children
- Home for the Elderly
- Personal Development Center
- Training Center
- Cafarnaum Hospice
