Cancer benefit motorcycle ride gets kick-start from Go Daddy
Go Daddy Donates $10,000 for Scottsdale Healthcare Cancer Center Fundraiser
SCOTTSDALE, Ariz., Sept. 26, 2012 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- GoDaddy.com, the world's largest provider[1] of Web hosting and domain name registrations, is donating $10,000 to help cancer patients and kick-start fundraising for the 4th annual Scottsdale Healthcare Rob Moy Memorial Motorcycle Run.
The Nov. 3 event is a fundraiser for the Gift of Life Lodging Program at the Virginia G. Piper Cancer Center at Scottsdale Healthcare. Several hundred riders are expected to participate.
The Gift of Life Lodging Program benefits eligible patients who travel for cancer treatment at the Virginia G. Piper Cancer Center at Scottsdale Healthcare. Because some treatments require multiple clinic visits over a period of time, courtesy lodging is provided through a partnership with the cancer center and Country Inn and Suites.
"The Virginia G. Piper Cancer Center has a national reputation for its personalized cancer treatment, clinical trials and new cancer drug development. The Gift of Life Lodging Program provides a home-away-from-home for patients in need who must travel for their cancer treatment at Scottsdale Healthcare," said event chair Tom Davis.
This is Go Daddy's second time stepping in to help with this event. "We think battling cancer is hard enough without having to worry about a place to stay during out-of-town medical treatments," said Go Daddy Chief Marketing Officer and Executive Vice President Barb Rechterman. "If we can help ease some of those additional healthcare related expenses, that's one less thing patients and their families have to think about. Go Daddy has always been committed to making a positive difference in our community. The fact this project involves a little time on a motorcycle makes it a fun way to give back, but this is a serious issue and we hope to see a great showing from Arizona's motorcycling community."
Rob Moy was a former hospital employee and Desert Storm veteran who was key to organizing the first benefit motorcycle run in 2009.
Presented by Scottsdale Healthcare Foundation, the motorcycle run is a 200-mile scenic ride featuring a "Scrabble Challenge." Riders will receive Scrabble letters at each stop, and the rider accumulating highest number of points at the end of the ride wins a flat screen television.
Registration opens at 8 a.m. with the ride starting at 9 a.m. on Nov. 3 at Go AZ Motorcycles, which is owned by avid motorcyclist Bob Parsons, a decorated Vietnam veteran and the GoDaddy.com Executive Chairman and Founder. From Scottsdale, the route travels through the Tonto National Forest before the finish line in Queen Creek at San Tan Flats, about 40 miles from Phoenix.
Registration for the ride is now open at SHC.org/MotorcycleRun. Register online before Oct. 22 for a discounted entry of $30 per rider and $20 per passenger, and get a free event T-shirt and pin. Day-of-event registration is $35 per rider and $20 per passenger. Registration fees are non-refundable.
All riders who raise at least $2,500 in sponsorships will receive a 40-inch flat screen TV. For registration questions or sponsorship information, contact Joanne Gain at 480-882-4541 or Tina Hudak at 480-882-4607.
