TORONTO, Jan. 22, 2014 /CNW/ - For the first time ever, women's ski jumping debuts as an Olympic sport and the Canadian women's ski jumping team will participate. Canadian team members Atsuko Tanaka, Taylor Henrich and Alexandra Pretorius will demonstrate their expertise, thanks in part to the financial support of their lead sponsor, Lesley Stowe Fine Foods Ltd.
"From the first time I watched ski jumping, I was mesmerized by the bravery and skill that goes into the sport," says Lesley Stowe, founder of Lesley Stowe Fine Foods Ltd., a purveyor of specialty foods, including the artisan crackers and entertaining favourite, Raincoast Crips. "The Canadian women's team is comprised of such a talented, dedicated group of young women - we are thrilled to help support their Olympic dreams."
Ski jumping is one of the oldest Olympic sports, having been introduced as one of eight sports at the first Winter Games in 1924. However, only men were allowed to compete. Prior to the 2010 Winter Games, a group of female ski jumpers began to pressure the International Olympic Committee and, in the Spring of 2011, women's ski jumping was accepted into the official Olympic program.
To motivate and inspire the team, Canadians can show their support by sharing a personalized good luck message on Lesley Stowe's official social media platforms, including Facebook (LesleyStowesRaincoastCrisps and Twitter @LesleyStowe). Lesley Stowe will contribute an additional $1 per message, to a maximum amount of $5,000.
"Atsuko, Taylor and Alexandra are excited about representing Canada," says Curtis Lyon, high performance director of Ski Jumping Canada. "With the support of Lesley Stowe and now, with additional backing from Canadians, we can help further the team's chances of owning the podium."

About Lesley Stowe Fine Foods Ltd.
Lesley Stowe is a Parisian-trained chef who began her own catering company more than 25 years ago in Vancouver. The store's success, combined with Lesley's ability to predict and capitalize on food trends resulted in the creation of Raincoast Crisps, an artisan cracker featured on Oprah's O List and recipient of the 2013 sofi™ Award for Outstanding Cracker from the Specialty Food Association. Following expansion of the crisps into more than 4,000 stores across North America, Lesley added a new addition to her specialty foods product family in 2011, the Raincoast Cookies, and in 2013 introduced wheat-free Raincoast Oat Crisps.
