New Canada Ebook Subscription from ProQuest Supports Increasingly Diverse Curricula and Research Demands
MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif., May 16, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Enrollment in Canadian public postsecondary institutions reached more than 2 million in 2013/2014 and continues to grow steadily. To support the needs of these researchers and students in Canada and French-speaking countries, ProQuest has launched a new Canada Ebook Subscription/Collection canadienne globale. This is the first of many local-focused offerings that ProQuest aims to launch over the next year in response to increased demand from librarians in Canada.
The development of this new ebook subscription was a collaborative effort between ProQuest and Canadian librarians to curate content aligned with the needs of researchers and mapped to popular and region-specific curricula. More than 9,800 titles from 70 publishers were chosen, including 1,600 French-language titles and a wide variety of high-use books, in addition to unique content unavailable from other ebook subscriptions.
Such essential, award-winning titles as Reasonable Accommodation: Managing Religious Diversity (UBC Press) and The Weariness of the Self (McGill-Queen's University Press) are highlights of the collection. World-renowned contributing University Press publishers include University of Toronto Press and Presses de l'Université Laval, as well as contributing trade publishers such as Dundurn Press. With unlimited multi-user access and coverage in local interest topics ranging from Canadian and European history to multi-disciplinary French language titles, academic and public libraries can now accommodate region-specific needs on demand.
"In developing this collection, we consulted intelligence-based usage data and survey results from Canadian and francophone librarians who are charged with providing access to foundational content critical to better learning and research outcomes," said Theresa Herbst, Director of Content Product Management at ProQuest Books. "Reflecting ProQuest's subscription evolution, this modular, manageable collection simplifies the delivery of premium, high-demand content—at the right price – to more libraries and their users than ever before."
To supplement the Canada Ebook Subscription/Collection canadienne globale, a comprehensive selection of titles from Canadian publishers is available in print via OASIS, as well as through flexible ebook acquisition models. Additional titles can be added via Perpetual Access, Demand-Driven Acquisition, and Access-to-Own.
