CHAMPAIGN, Ill., May 16, 2017 /PRNewswire/ --Wolfram Research, Inc., creator of Mathematica, Wolfram|Alpha and the Wolfram Language, announces the integration of Wolfram technology with SolveBio, the operating system for precision medicine that enables biotech and pharmaceutical companies to leverage molecular information for therapeutic development.
The integration uses the natural language processing capabilities of the Wolfram Language so that doctors and scientists can intuitively query complex biomedical data in plain language for reliably actionable insights. This is a step forward in leveraging the large amounts of biomedical data that sometimes go unused by medical professionals and researchers. The integration will be demonstrated for the first time at the 2017 Bio-IT World Conference and Expo in Boston, Massachusetts, May 23-25, where SolveBio is a finalist for the Best of Show award this year.
Jesús Hernández, PhD, from the Partnerships & Business Development department at Wolfram, said of the partnership, "This is a great combination of using the well-structured data and carefully thought-out API endpoints provided by SolveBio in tandem with the built-in knowledge and natural language processing of the Wolfram Language. Taking advantage of the ease of use of both sides allowed for the quick creation of a researcher-friendly interface to complex datasets."
As described by SolveBio cofounder and CTO David Caplan, "The Wolfram Language, designed for knowledge-based programming, perfectly complements SolveBio's operating system for precision medicine. Combining Wolfram's natural language understanding capabilities with the wealth of harmonized molecular information on SolveBio, it is finally possible for scientists to ask complex questions and instantly get answers in a language they understand."
The integration is the first of its kind—combining the natural language processing capabilities of the Wolfram Language with the data infrastructure of SolveBio. Researchers can now query data in SolveBio using the Wolfram Language and natural language input, retrieving results that draw on multiple disparate sources of data that SolveBio connects.
