G.I. Jobs magazine identifies school as military-student friendly and the Department of Defense awards college administration
CAMBRIDGE, Mass., Aug. 16 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Cambridge College, a private non-profit college serving a diverse population of working adults, has been named a Military Friendly School for 2011 by G.I. Jobs magazine. Released today, the list honors the top 15% of colleges, universities and trade schools nationwide. In addition, the college announced that it has signed a Statement of Support for the National Guard and Reserve.
"We've found that having service members and veterans as students and employees is a win-win situation," said Executive Vice President Joseph Daisy. "As a college tailored to the needs of adult learners, we are a natural choice for many students with military experience. We benefit from the maturity, leadership skills, and work ethic that people with military backgrounds bring to us."
Earlier this summer, Dr. Daisy and President Tito Guerrero III were honored with Patriot Awards in recognition of their extraordinary support of an employee serving in the Massachusetts National Guard and Reserve. The college accepts up to 90 undergraduate transfer credits and has evening and weekend class scheduling designed for working adults.
"The Cambridge College staff understand the challenges military personnel face from day-to-day and do everything possible to help," said Kevin Sullivan, a January master of management graduate who is Active Duty with the U.S. Navy. "The best overall experience was learning alongside classmates from the other sister services and civilian professionals."
Based in Cambridge, Massachusetts, Cambridge College has seven regional centers nationwide. The Chesapeake, Virginia center enrolled more than 650 students last year. There, degree options include a bachelor's program in multidisciplinary studies and graduate programs in education and business.
To create the Military Friendly Schools list, G.I. Jobs polled more than 7,000 schools across the nation. The top 15% were identified using several measures, including accreditation, programs and policies, financial commitment, and proven success in recruiting military and veteran students.
