Cambridge College Awarded Military Friendly School Designation
CAMBRIDGE, Mass., Sept. 29, 2011 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Cambridge College, a private non-profit college serving a diverse population of working adults, has been named a Military Friendly School for 2012 by G.I. Jobs magazine. Released today, the list honors the top 20% of colleges, universities and trade schools nationwide.
"We're very honored to be recognized for our commitment to the men and women of the armed forces and their families, and proud to be able to give back for their sacrifices to our country. As a college tailored to the needs of adult learners, we are a natural fit for students with military backgrounds," said President Deborah Jackson. "Service members appreciate that our learning model encourages them to draw on their military experience in the classroom. By serving them, we gain students who have strong leadership skills, a high-level of professionalism and a drive to succeed."
Based in Cambridge, Massachusetts, Cambridge College has seven regional centers nationwide in Springfield and Lawrence, Massachusetts; Chesapeake, Virginia; Memphis, Tennessee; Augusta, Georgia; San Juan, Puerto Rico; and Rancho Cucamonga, California. The college specializes in creating educational opportunities for working adults. Students may transfer up to 90 credits toward an undergraduate degree, an asset for military professionals who may have been transferred or deployed before finishing their degrees at other colleges. Classes are held during the evenings and weekends to meet working adults' schedules.
"I chose Cambridge College because of the convenient classes. Being in the military and working all day leaves not much room for regular day classes," said student Jose Balboa at the college's Chesapeake location. "Cambridge College provided me an opportunity to advance my education in the field of school counseling. I will retire this year and will complete my masters just in time to transition over into the public school system."
To create the Military Friendly Schools list, G.I. Jobs polled more than 8,000 schools across the nation. The top 20% were identified using several measures, including accreditation, programs and policies, financial commitment, and proven success in recruiting military and veteran students.
