Cambridge College announces 2014 honorary degree recipients for its 43rd Commencement Exercises
CAMBRIDGE, Mass., May 12, 2014 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Cambridge College is pleased to announce the honorary degree recipients and commencement speaker for its 43rd Commencement. This year, former member of the U.S. House of Representatives Barney Frank will address the graduating class of 2014 and will receive an honorary doctorate in Humane Letters. Also receiving honorary degrees will be Chief Justice of the Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court, Roderick L. Ireland, and the Founder of El Mundo Newspaper, Alberto Vasallo, Jr.
Barney Frank began his lengthy political career in Massachusetts, where he served for eight years in the Massachusetts House of Representatives. In 1980, Frank was elected to the U.S. House of Representatives from Massachusetts' fourth district, where he served for 32 years. From 2007-2011, he served as chair of the Committee on Financial Services. As chair, Frank was a key author of the Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act, which was signed into law in 2010. Throughout his time in the public sector, Frank dedicated his work to financial regulations and expanding civil rights.

Elected by Governor Deval Patrick in 2010, Justice Roderick L. Ireland is the Chief Justice of the Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court. Ireland began his career in 1969 as a Neighborhood Legal Services attorney and has a rich history of working within the Massachusetts legal system. Prior to his appointment as Chief Justice, Ireland was the first African-American Justice to serve in the Supreme Judicial Court when he was appointed in 1997.
Alberto Vasallo, Jr. founded El Mundo Newspaper in 1972. El Mundo Newspaper is the regarded as the leading Spanish language publication throughout the New England area. Four years after arriving in the United States from Cuba, Vasallo, Jr. began his career in the Greater Boston area when he scheduled concerts featuring famous Latin musicians. Vasallo, Jr. currently serves as the President and Managing Editor at El Mundo.
