Cambium Networks' PMP 450 Wireless Broadband Platform Now Available In 2.4 GHz
Added frequency expands wireless broadband connectivity for voice, video and data applications
ROLLING MEADOWS, Ill., Aug. 6, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Cambium Networks™, a leading provider of wireless broadband access and backhaul network solutions, today announced that the field-proven Point-to-Multipoint (PMP) 450 Access Point is now available in the 2.4 GHz frequency, in addition to the current availability at 5 GHz. The PMP 450 is ideally suited for rural connectivity, video surveillance and lease line replacement.
Designed with scalability in mind, the PMP 450 has made significant improvements in the existing platform including:
- Expanded coverage and reliable connectivity over a 40-mile radius – an increase of 15 miles from the original 5 GHz PMP 450.
- Newly available 5 MHz channel bandwidth complements the 10 and 20 MHz channel bandwidths, providing more options for spectrum-congested areas.
These enhancements offer service providers and network operators higher throughput performance, GPS synchronization and low latency to deliver seamless voice, video and data connectivity to their subscribers.
"Deploying the PMP 450 at 5 GHz has increased access point capacity by six times our current platform. Its speed increases are significant, and with its availability in new frequency bands, we can meet our customers' growing bandwidth demands. The 2.4 GHz PMP 450 is an important new tool for us and we will be deploying it throughout our network," said Bret Westwood, vice president of Network Operations, JAB Broadband. "Our configuration of Cambium products has proven to be a sound investment. Over the last seven years, Cambium access points have been key to our success. We have seen a steady increase in triple-play connectivity needs from our subscribers, and Cambium has continually provided us additional radio throughput in a wide range of frequencies to meet this demand. And the fact that the PMP 450 had the same interface as our existing equipment and the same installation process makes it that much easier and faster for our team on the ground."
Launched in 2012 at 5 GHz, the PMP 450 is now used in hundreds of networks in more than 45 countries.
"Our challenge was finding a cost-effective solution to the problem of reducing interference in the bands we use, and effectively meeting the needs of the under-served populations that had been left behind by other providers," said Tad Vernor, installations and services manager of Guadalupe Valley Electric Cooperative. "We found a perfect fit with Cambium. Our network, configured mostly wirelessly, is exceptionally stable with little downtime. With Cambium's products in our network, we feel confident in fulfilling the needs of our user base, which is spread over 3,500 square miles in Texas and will continue to grow."
The PMP 450's video surveillance capabilities have proven useful for government service providers, a key market for Cambium Networks. Newer high-definition cameras require significant (5-8 Mbps) upstream bandwidth, which is not feasible with ADSL but easily configured on the PMP 450. Public safety measures can be quickly implemented and maintained, a welcome alternative to costlier wire or fiber-based solutions.
"We are delighted that the PMP 450 is being used by a number of governmental entities, which speaks to its versatility, durability and affordability," stated Atul Bhatnagar, president and CEO, Cambium Networks. "We will continue to enhance the PMP 450's capabilities to support our customers' emerging requirements. The expanding capabilities of the PMP 450 enable more providers to reap the same benefits of improved services and increased revenue that our existing customers have enjoyed."
