Cambium Networks Begins Operations as Independent Organization
Combining world-class Canopy and Orthogon technologies and products, Cambium Networks opens for business as a global leader in fixed wireless broadband solutions
SCHAUMBURG, Ill. and ASHBURTON, England, Nov. 2, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Cambium Networks announced today its separation from its former parent company, Motorola Solutions, Inc., and its beginning as an independent provider of wireless broadband products, services and solutions.
“The demand for high-speed connectivity is exploding around the world,” says Phil Bolt, CEO of Cambium Networks. “As an independent company, Cambium Networks becomes a nimbler, more focused and more aggressive organization dedicated to helping our customers and partners take full advantage of the continuing growth of wireless broadband.”
“Although this is our first day as a new company, Cambium Networks is hardly a newcomer to the broadband industry,” continued Bolt. “We’re the providers of the most respected and widely deployed Point-to-Point (PTP) and Point-to-Multipoint (PMP) solutions in the business. Even as we begin independent operations, we currently have installed networks in more than 150 countries. Supporting those deployments is a highly seasoned team of wireless, IP and RF propagation professionals whose combined experience runs into the thousands of years in the industry.”
Vector Capital, a private equity organization, purchased the company from Motorola Solutions and intends to operate the business as a standalone firm. "At Vector Capital, we have an excellent track record of acquiring and accelerating growth of non-core divisions of global technology companies," says Alex Slusky, managing partner at Vector Capital. "We look forward to working with the Cambium management team to build the leading independent provider of PTP and PMP solutions."
The new company offers a comprehensive portfolio of fixed wireless high-speed backhaul and access solutions for a wide range of customers and industries. Cambium Networks is dedicated to providing technology and solutions designed to be a perfect fit for specific applications and markets, including Wireless Internet Service Providers (WISPs), enterprises, utilities, municipalities, public safety departments, military and Federal government agencies.
Cambium Networks' award-winning PTP radio solutions operate in licensed, unlicensed and defined use frequency bands. Ruggedized for 99.999 percent availability, the company's solutions are renowned for delivering reliable high-speed backhaul connectivity even in the most challenging non-line-of-sight RF environments. The solutions include Multiple Input Multiple Output (MIMO), Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM) and intelligent Dynamic Frequency Selection (iDFS) technologies to enhance signal reliability.
With more than three million modules installed around the world, Cambium Networks' PMP solutions are known for making the delivery of high-speed access to multiple locations efficient and cost-effective. The company's PMP networks operate in the licensed, unlicensed and federal frequency bands. Using the Canopy synchronization and interface, Cambium access network solutions are proving themselves day after day in residential access, leased line replacement, video surveillance, smart grid and other applications.
With its Wireless Manager suite of software tools, Cambium Networks is also a leading provider of network management and control solutions. With map-based visualization using embedded Google maps, the Wireless Manager solution provides configuration, provisioning and alert information for network backhaul, distribution and access layers.
For customers who have purchased PTP, PTM and Wireless Manager products through Motorola Solutions, those shipments and warranty coverage will be honored by Cambium Networks. Motorola Solutions is entering into a Global Supply Agreement with Cambium Networks where they will continue to provide their direct, public safety and Federal customers with Cambium Networks world-class access, backhaul and management solutions.
