Calnetix Technologies to Present, Exhibit at ASME Power & Energy Conference in San Diego Next Week
CERRITOS, Calif., June 24, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Calnetix Technologies, a leader in high-speed permanent magnet motor generators, power electronics and magnetic bearings for a variety of applications and industries, will give several presentations on topics ranging from energy recycling and optimization to small-scale generation to energy storage at the ASME Power & Energy Conference in San Diego next week.
Chief Executive Officer Vatche Artinian will discuss new opportunities in recycling and optimizing energy resources during the conference lunch on Tuesday, June 30 at the Sales Pavilion in the Exhibit Hall.
"As the world's population grows, energy prices increase and emissions requirements tighten, there is increasing demand and new opportunities to utilize untapped or underutilized clean energy resources," said Artinian. "It is imperative that we employ more innovative means of meeting this demand and continue to explore more efficient and sustainable ways to use energy today and well into the future."
Development Engineer Errol Yuksek will present a paper, coauthored by Director of Systems Engineering Parsa Mirmobin, on electricity generation from large marine vessel engine jacket water heat during the Energy and Transportation session of the Energy Sustainability Conference on Tuesday at 1:00 p.m.
"Our recently developed Hydrocurrent™ Organic Rankine Cycle system can produce up to 125 kW of grid-quality electric power from previously untapped engine jacket water heat, ranging from 80 to 95 °C," said Yuksek. "This saves approximately 200 metric tons of diesel fuel consumption per year as well as the emissions resulting from that consumption."
Octavio Solis, Director of Engineering for Calnetix's VYCON Division, will give a technical presentation on the principles, installation and system performance of the Wayside Flywheel Energy Storage System (WESS) at a Los Angeles Metro traction power substation. The presentation, coauthored by Calnetix Chief Technology Officer Patrick McMullen, LA Metro WESS Project Manager Frank Castro and Turner Engineering Corporation Engineer Gary Thompson, will be given during the Distributed and Small-Scale Generation session of the Power Conference on Tuesday at 10:15 a.m.
McMullen also is the coauthor of a paper being presented by Texas A&M University on a 100 kW shaft-less energy storage flywheel during the Energy Storage Session of the Energy Sustainability Conference on Wednesday at 1:00 p.m.
Calnetix is a Silver Sponsor of the ASME Power & Energy Conference and will feature a new booth, #513, at the show. ASME Power & Energy is bringing together ASME's most dynamic annual energy events for the first time: the Power Conference; the 9th International Conference on Energy Sustainability; the 13th Fuel Cell Science, Engineering, and Technology Conference; and the inaugural Nuclear Forum. Fossil and nuclear power generation, solar, wind, fuel cell applications and much more will be discussed in each of the four concurrent conferences within this larger event. The conference includes invited presentations, technical sessions, workshops, panel discussions, posters and exhibition with extensive collaboration between industry, researchers and government.
