Calling Hospitals To "Light It Blue" To Recognize Prostate Cancer Awareness Month
As National Support Grows, Blue Cure Asks More Cancer Centers to Join Campaign
HOUSTON, Sept. 21, 2015 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- This September, buildings across the nation are lit blue to support Prostate Cancer Awareness Month. By increasing the visibility of the "Light it Blue" campaign, Blue Cure Foundation is working to start conversations early on with young men on prevention through healthy lifestyle choices, and honoring those we've lost, along with the 2.9 million American survivors.
Blue Cure respectfully calls on our nation's health care professionals to join in the movement through the simple act of lighting a hospital or cancer center blue for an evening this September.
Cancer centers and hospitals across the nation participating in the #lightitblue campaign this month include Baylor College of Medicine; Houston Methodist (Sugar Land) and twelve Memorial Hermann locations in Houston, TX; at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute in Boston, MA; in Raleigh, NC at the Wells Fargo Duke Energy Center in Raleigh, NC; at the Seattle Cancer Care Alliance complex (including Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center, Seattle Children's Hospital and UW Medicine) in Seattle, WA; in Clermont, FL at South Lake Hospital in Clermont, FL; at the Cancer Treatment Centers of America - Western Regional Medical Center in Goodyear, AZ and in Mineola, NY at the Long Island Cancer Center at Winthrop University Hospital.
Founder Gabe Canales (diagnosed with prostate cancer at 35) says, "This simple act can have a powerful ripple effect in communities across our nation. One in seven American men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer in his lifetime. We have an awesome opportunity to reach out to our brothers, sons, grandfathers, dads, husbands and friends this month."
