Calling All Skateboarders: Cricket Wireless Hits the Streets of New York and Newark with Street League Skateboarding Legend P-Rod

WHAT: The Street League Skateboarding (SLS) Super Crown World Championship is coming to Newark, and Cricket Wireless, the event's exclusive wireless partner, is kicking off the weekend with engaging activities in the New York City and Newark metropolitan areas to interact with and meet the face of street skateboarding Paul Rodriguez (P-Rod).                                         

Rodriguez is the latest Cricket brand ambassador and is on a mission to get fans excited about the best pro street skateboarders competing in the skate mecca of Newark at SLS. Cricket encourages skateboarding enthusiasts to take it to the streets by showing off their best tricks and support fellow skaters at upcoming New York and Newark event locations in the coming days (details below). As skateboarding's most prestigious professional competitive series, SLS brings the sport's best street skateboarding to a worldwide fan base.

WHEN/WHERE:

• Friday, August 22 (3:00PM – 4:00PM): Autograph signing and "selfie" opportunity with Rodriguez at Cricket Wireless (83-05 Roosevelt Ave, Jackson Heights, NY 11372)
• Friday, August 22 (5:00PM – 7:00PM): Skate and hang out with Rodriguez at Les Coleman Skatepark (62 Pike St, New York, NY 10002)
• Sunday, August 24 (7:00PM): SLS Expo and SLS Super Crown World Championship (Prudential Center, 25 Lafayette St, Newark, NJ 07102)

Cricket donated 100 tickets to this Sunday's SLS competition to area youth action sports group, STOKED, where STOKED's leader, Steve Larosiliere, will receive the 2014 Cricket Community Impact Award. In addition, Cricket will host 15 lucky STOKED youth to an Open Skate event on Saturday where they can skate the SLS course with Rodriguez.

Both Cricket Wireless events with Rodriguez are open to the public and free of charge. The Street League Skateboarding Super Crown World Championship takes place this Sunday, 8/24, at the Prudential Center, 25 Lafayette St, Newark, NJ 07102. Tickets start at $25 and can be purchased on www.streetleague.com.
