Contest seeks open source applications to analyze corporate financial data

What: Every publicly traded U.S. company is now required to tag financial data according to a XML-based business reporting standard known as eXtensible Business Reporting Language (XBRL). The XBRL Challenge is a contest designed to spark innovative ideas for analytical applications that consume XBRL financial statement data. The Challenge provides a unique opportunity to get educated on XBRL, a technology standard that's coming into widespread use and includes a grand prize of $20,000 for the individual, team, or company who creates the most inventive and useful application to leverage XBRL data.
