Calling All Designers! AJC Peachtree Road Race T-shirt Contest Opens
WINNING DESIGN TO BE FEATURED ON 60,000 FINISHERS' SHIRTS
ATLANTA, Dec. 1, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Professional, amateur and first-time graphic designers will have the opportunity to have their work featured on Atlanta's most prestigious and iconic T-Shirt. Atlanta Track Club is now accepting submissions for the AJC Peachtree Road Race T-shirt contest.
Artists are invited to submit up to three designs via Atlanta Track Club's website through Feb. 9, 2018. A panel of judges from the Club, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution and Mizuno USA will narrow the submissions down to five finalists. The general public will then vote for their favorite design by visiting AJC.com/peachtree. The winner will be unveiled at the finish line of the 49th AJC Peachtree Road Race on July 4, 2018 as 60,000 finishers of the world's largest 10K receive their coveted shirts.
"The AJC Peachtree Road Race finishers' shirt is part of the very fabric of the Peachtree tradition," said Rich Kenah, Atlanta Track Club's Executive Director and Race Director of the AJC Peachtree Road Race. "I look forward to seeing this year's design and I am confident that the 49th running of the Peachtree will feature one of the best designs yet."
Designers must follow guidelines explained in the contest rules. They must also create their designs without knowledge of the T-shirt's color, which remains a secret along with the winning artwork until July 4. The contest winner not only gets the thrill of seeing their design on the shirts of tens of thousands of Independence Day participants, they also receive $1,000 from the AJC.
"The AJC Peachtree Road Race is so much more than just a 10K – it represents an important moment of community pride and one of the things that truly defines Atlanta," said AJC Marketing Vice President Amy Chown. "We are very proud too to have our brand associated with an event that means so much to Atlanta – and to everyone who participates in it."
The 2017 AJC Peachtree Road Race T-shirt Contest winner was Kevin Benton, a graphic designer from Lawrenceville, GA. His design, "American Peach" was featured on a baby blue Mizuno T-shirt. "I entered the contest this year to see how I would fare after a lot of hard work to better myself as a designer," Benton said upon learning of his victory. "I'm very proud to say the least!"
