Call for Applications Now Open for the 2016 Vernier/NSTA Technology Awards
Seven science educators demonstrating innovative uses of data-collection technology in the classroom to win prizes valued at $5,500 each
BEAVERTON, Ore., Sept. 2, 2015 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Vernier Software & Technology and the National Science Teachers Association (NSTA) are now accepting applications for the 2016 Vernier/NSTA Technology Awards. Seven educators—one elementary teacher, two middle school teachers, three high school teachers, and one college-level educator—will be awarded for their innovative use of data-collection technology using a computer, tablet, or other handheld device in the science classroom.
Chosen by a panel of NSTA-appointed experts, each winner will receive $1,000 in cash, $3,000 in Vernier products, and up to $1,500 toward expenses to attend the annual NSTA National Conference in Nashville, TN on March 31, 2016–April 3, 2016. All current K–12 and college science teachers are eligible and encouraged to apply by the November 30, 2015 deadline.
"The annual Vernier/NSTA Technology Awards provide a great opportunity for science and STEM teachers to showcase how they engage students in hands-on learning through innovative data-collection investigations," said David Vernier, co-founder of Vernier and former physics teacher. "Teachers not only get an opportunity to share their best practices with fellow educators, they have the chance to win prizes that can further enhance their teaching."
Last year's Vernier/NSTA Technology Awards winners used data-collection technology for a wide range of investigations, including collecting data from gardens, creating biofiltration units, analyzing wavelengths of various instruments, exploring the effects of chemicals on living yeast cells, and more.
