California.com Domain Name Acquired by One Planet Ops
Company Plans to Build Premier California Website
WALNUT CREEK, Calif., Aug. 22, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- One Planet Ops, Inc. announced today that it has acquired the domain name California.com, and intends to build a new website at that address reflecting the best the Golden State has to offer.
The domain name, acquired in a package deal with nine others for an undisclosed mid-seven figure amount, represents one of the most expensive domain transactions in recent history.
Plans for the development of California.com, which envision a public launch of the platform in early 2019, include a destination website that will allow visitors to discover the magic of California in a unique new way. Not slated to become just another directory or ordinary review site, One Planet's leadership team anticipates making California.com the definitive, go-to portal for all things California.
"Major domain names like this one don't often change hands these days," said Zamani, "so we're incredibly excited about the enormous potential of California.com—and when it launches we expect it to alter the landscape of our state's global web presence."
One Planet's staffing in California, Zamani added, will increase over time by at least 40 employees working on California.com.
The deal also included three domain names that would typically be used for content that the One Planet team would not find appropriate, these domains are: CaliforniaSex.com; CaliforniaGirls.com; and Californication.com.
Rather than offering those three domain names for resale, One Planet, a company that takes its social impact mission seriously, intends to re-purpose them as sites that promote the equality of men and women, advance the education of girls, stop human trafficking, and advocate for the oneness of humanity.
The hybrid tech firm One Planet Ops (OPO) operates several large online businesses, and makes investments that cover a broad spectrum across the tech world and beyond. One Planet's largest operating business is Buyerlink.com, formerly Reply.com, the leading online marketplace for the acquisition of locally-targeted consumer demand in the automotive, real estate, and home improvement industries. The company also owns and operates MerchantCircle.com and Contractors.com.
The One Planet Ops portfolio of investments includes companies like BestMile, Volans-i, The Real Real, Gro Intelligence, SoulPancake, IronClad and more. One Planet's founder and CEO Payam Zamani originally co-founded Autoweb.com in 1994, the first online car-buying service. Its successful 1999 IPO reached a market cap of $1.2B.
One Planet Ops has a unique business model—with each investment it makes and every entrepreneurial company it creates, it attempts to build a powerful combination of business success and social good, of Innovation+Intention.
