California Wines Website Available in Seven Languages for 10 Markets
SAN FRANCISCO, Sept. 16, 2014 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ --Wine Institute, the association of nearly 1,000 California wineries and affiliated businesses, has translated and localized its consumer website DiscoverCaliforniaWines.com for 10 key markets for California wines. Visitors to the site can choose from a menu of 10 country-specific sites in English and six other languages including Chinese (for Mainland China, Hong Kong and Taiwan), French, German, Japanese, Korean and Spanish. The sites offer information on California's wine regions with maps of the state's American Viticultural Areas (AVA's), a winery finder and calendar of events both in the state and around the world, details about the unique climate and geography, popular varietal wines, wine and food pairings, seasonal recipes, sustainable winegrowing trends and more, all set against a colorful backdrop of California's breathtaking landscapes.
The new websites were created for the top export markets for California Wines, including the European Union's 28-member countries which are the largest, accounting for $617 million in annual sales; followed by Canada, $454 million; Japan, $102 million; Hong Kong, $78 million; China, $77 million; Mexico, $22 million and South Korea, $18 million.
U.S. wine exports, 90% from California, reached a record high of $1.55 billion in winery revenues in 2013, the fourth consecutive year of growth, and are on track to increase again in 2014. U.S. wine exports for six months through June 2014 were up 11% by value to $752 million, and grew 15% by volume to 241.6 million liters or 26.8 million cases, compared to the same time period last year.
Since 1985, Wine Institute has served as the administrator of the Market Access Program, a cost-share export promotion program managed by the USDA's Foreign Agricultural Service. More than 150 wineries participate in Wine Institute's California Wine Export Program and export to 125 countries.
