AUSTIN, Texas, April 19, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- e-MDs, a leading provider of electronic health records (EHRs), announced they have been selected as an EHR vendor partner by the California Health Information Partnership and Services Organization (CalHIPSO). CalHIPSO, a federally-designated Health Information Technology Regional Extension Center (HITREC), provides REC services to all of California except Los Angeles and Orange County. e-MDs will work with CalHIPSO to encourage and facilitate the adoption of EHR technology by the state's healthcare providers. As a vendor partner, e-MDs will help providers manage efficient implementation and achievement of meaningful use in a cost effective manner.

e-MDs is part of an initial group of vendors to complete the contracting process with CalHIPSO. The company was selected through a comprehensive process that included an in-depth assessment of affordability, remote hosting option, ePrescribing capability, ONC-ATCB (Meaningful Use) certification, ability to interface with a State Health Information Exchange (HIE) system, system functionality, and overall benefit to providers. e-MDs Chart, the company's EHR, has also received high product ratings by the American Academy of Family Physicians, American College of Physicians, and 2010 Best in KLAS awards for Ambulatory EHR (2-5 physician) as well as Practice Management (2-5 physician).

CalHIPSO, a nonprofit vendor neutral organization, will work with over 6,100 clinical providers across California to help them successfully adopt Electronic Health Records (EHRs) using $33 million in funding provided through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. CalHIPSO is responsible for a wide range of activities related to identifying and signing up providers for EHRs, vendor vetting, group purchasing, workflow redesign, high level project management, education and training, and assistance meeting Meaningful Use.
