California Forum to Focus on Community Association Legal Issues
SANTA ANA, Calif., Sept. 9 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Diverse legal issues affecting the governance and management of homeowner and condominium associations in California will be the focus of a day-long legal forum October 29 in Irvine.
CAI Legal Forum: California Communities will provide essential legal information and perspective on assessment collections, lending guidelines that affect associations, fair housing law, ethics, association elections, contracts and much more.
Keynote speaker Huell Howser is a special addition to the program. The well-known host of California Gold, a highly popular PBS television series about California, Howser has spent almost 20 years sharing the history, culture and natural wonders of California through stories about everyday people.
Sponsored by the eight California chapters of Community Associations Institute (CAI), the event will feature two distinct learning tracks, one for community managers, the other for homeowners, including association board members and other community leaders. The eight CAI chapters are Bay Area and Central California, California North, Channel Islands, Coachella Valley, Greater Inland Empire, Greater Los Angeles, Orange County and San Diego. Chapter contact information is available at www.caionline.org/chapters.
"California has some of the most extensive and complex laws affecting community associations," notes Thomas M. Skiba, CAE, chief executive officer of CAI's 30,000-member national organization. "It's essential that community managers, association board members and other homeowner leaders fully understand their legal obligations. The result of overlooking a legal requirement can be very costly, and ignorance of the law is not a defense."
The event will be held at the Irvine Marriott at 18000 Von Karman Avenue. Registration opens at 8 a.m., with concurrent sessions beginning at 9 a.m.
The registration fee is $119 for CAI members and $169 for nonmembers. To learn more or register, visit www.caionline.org/events/CALaw.
CAI is a national membership organization that advocates on behalf of homeowner and condominium associations. Along with its almost 60 U.S. chapters, CAI provides information, tools and resources to community association volunteer leaders (homeowners), professional association managers and management firms and other professionals who provide products and services to community associations.
