California Fire Safe Council and Farmers Insurance Present 'Disaster Prep: What's Next' a Fire and Disaster Prevention/Preparedness Workshop

REDDING, Calif., July 2 /PRNewswire/ -- Make plans to join the California Fire Safe Council, Farmers Insurance, the California Earthquake Authority, Cal Fire and an array of interesting speakers on Wednesday, July 7, 2010 for the "Disaster Prep: What's Next" fire prevention/preparedness workshop.

The FREE event is planned for 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 PM at the Redding Holiday Inn (1900 Hilltop Drive).

Homeowners who live anywhere in the Wildland Urban Interface areas -- in, close to or near forest and fire dangers -- are welcome to attend.  "We are offering a lot of good information to help homeowners safeguard their homes from fire and earthquakes," noted Margaret Grayson, Executive Director of the California Fire Safe Council.  Homeowners will learn more about new fire-resistant building materials, how to prepare for disasters, and learn what emergency services agencies do to prepare.  Plus, get to know some amazing local Fire Safe Council folks from communities around Redding; and find out ways to improve your community's insurability."

Speakers at the workshop include:

• Nationally Known Wildland Fire Specialist, Pat Durland, who will provide information on the latest wildfire mitigation strategies.
• A multi-hazard panel will discuss how their agencies prepare and respond to disasters.  They will also offer preparation techniques for homeowners.

• The American Red Cross of Northeastern California
