California Community Foundation Awards $3.4 Million To Create Greater Equity, Opportunity And Prosperity Across L.A. County
Grants support arts, education, health care, housing and economic development, community building, citizenship, immigrant integration and scholarships
LOS ANGELES, Oct. 29, 2014 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- California Community Foundation (CCF) has awarded $3,400,432 in grants to nonprofit organizations throughout Los Angeles County. CCF supports programs and initiatives that address the strategic and wide-ranging needs of Los Angeles' most underserved residents through discretionary funds entrusted to the foundation by generations of donors. This new round of grants is the third of four grant dockets for the 2014 calendar year.
A total of 28 grants were announced across a wide spectrum of areas with the following goals:
- Arts: to help provide local, relevant and affordable arts services county-wide.
- Education: to increase school readiness and provide teachers with quality professional development programs.
- Health care: to improve access to quality, coordinated and sustainable health care.
- Housing and economic development: to assist grassroots organizing groups, advocacy groups and nonprofit developers to respond to opportunities and challenges facing Los Angeles' families and individuals in economically disadvantaged neighborhoods, and support job expansion and preservation, micro-lending efforts and financial literacy training.
Grants were also awarded in support of key CCF initiatives:
- El Monte Community Building Initiative aims to ensure that children and youth in El Monte grow up healthier and better prepared for school, college and a career.
- Citizenship Campaign/One Los Angeles, One Nation encourages eligible legal permanent residents to become citizens and assists them in the process. One Los Angeles, One Nation promotes civic engagement of the American Muslim community in Los Angeles.
- Immigrant Integration Initiative focuses on increasing the civic participation of immigrants as a way to enhance the region's policies toward immigrants and foster a vibrant and engaged community.
- Los Angeles Scholars Investment Fund provides scholarships and effective college preparation and completion services to increase the number of low-income students who graduate with post-secondary degrees.
- More and Better Learning Time, in partnership with the Ford Foundation, seeks to provide public schools in neighborhoods of concentrated poverty with more after-school, out-of-school and anytime/anywhere learning opportunities.
