REDWOOD SHORES, Calif., Oct. 26, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- To streamline overall operations and campus experiences, California community colleges, San Bernardino Community College District (SBCCD) and San Joaquin Delta College (SJDC) are using Oracle Cloud Applications. The depth and breadth of Oracle cloud solutions are helping the colleges transform and standardize business systems to drive sustainable cost reductions, provide greater insights through real-time analytics and improve overall services for students, faculty, staff and vendors.
Faced with the challenge of tightening public funding coupled with an influx of students, California community college administrators are under increased pressure to stretch available resources to serve the needs of their constituents. According to the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities, funding for public two- and four-year colleges is nearly $10 billion below what it was just prior to the recession. Cloud-based technologies have enabled organizations across a variety of industries to address similar resource challenges while continuing to deliver innovative new services and build the foundation for a modern infrastructure to support evolving needs.
"Like many business enterprises, higher education institutions navigate a complex environment of financial, political, and community based factors to achieve optimal success in running their organizations," said Keith Rajecki, senior director, Oracle Higher Education. "Oracle cloud solutions deliver proven, enterprise-grade tools to empower community colleges to effectively deliver enhanced higher education experience for students, faculty and employees while increasing productivity and efficiency across their colleges."
San Bernardino Community College District (SBCCD)
"San Bernardino Community College District is proud to be a leader in making technological improvements and innovative changes that make our public dollars work harder for local students and Oracle ERP Cloud is central in these efforts," said Jose Torres, executive vice chancellor at the San Bernardino Community College District.
SBCCD, serves 24,000 students through Crafton Hills College and San Bernardino Valley College in Inland Southern California. As a champion for affordable, high-quality education and career training, SBCCD wanted to ensure the college district was well positioned to serve the needs of its entire campus community with the overall goal of declaring fiscal independence from the county. The college district recognized a modern financial platform was critical to that mission. Following a competitive RFP process, SBCCD became the first California community college to select Oracle ERP Cloud to provide improved reporting capabilities across all college functions and deliver the necessary insights to make informed decisions.
San Joaquin Delta College (SJDC)
"San Joaquin Delta College has always been committed to providing students with the innovative, high-quality education, and training necessary for 21st-century careers. Yet, legacy systems greatly hindered that mission," said Gerardo Calderón, MLIS, vice president of Operations, San Joaquin Delta College. "By choosing Oracle Cloud Applications SJDC is taking advantage of integrated functionality that empowers students to achieve their educational goals. Operationally, SJDC is looking forward to improve service delivery through workflows, real-time transactions processing and reporting and better decision making."
Based in Stockton, Calif., SJDC serves 22,000 students and was eager to replace a variety of legacy systems including a 20-year-old homegrown student information system. The college selected Oracle ERP Cloud, Oracle HCM Cloud, Oracle Student Cloud and Oracle Campus Solutions with the goals of:
- Streamlining business processes across all college operations
- Improving student and college staff productivity through web and mobile-enabled applications
- Improving access to real-time data with actionable analytical insights
- Increasing responsiveness to state, federal and internal reporting requirements
- Reducing the number of costly, disparate systems that no longer support the college's needs
