California Appeals Court Affirms Online Travel Industry Victories in Anaheim and Santa Monica
Recent landslide of clear legal victories for online travel companies raises questions about validity of similar litigation
LOS ANGELES, Nov. 2, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Just weeks after celebrating two major legal victories in Texas and Hawaii, online travel companies (OTCs) again announced two more significant court wins, this time in Anaheim and Santa Monica, California. The California Second District Court of Appeals today affirmed judgments by the Superior Court of Los Angeles County which concluded that OTCs were not liable for local lodging taxes on their hotel reservation services.
"In the span of less than one month, OTCs have recorded impressive victories in three of the largest travel and tourism markets in the nation. While the lawyers promoting these cases apparently are unafraid of consistent failure, it is a shame that communities continue to waste taxpayer dollars on such futile litigation," said Simon Gros, Chairman of Travel Tech.
