California American Water Celebrates 'Drinking Water Week'
Utility emphasizes conservation during public campaign
SACRAMENTO, Calif., May 3 /PRNewswire/ -- The week of May 2nd - 8th has been declared "Drinking Water Week" by the American Water Works Association, a consortium of more than 60,000 water utilities, regulating agencies and policy makers dedicated to improving water supply and quality in North America.
In recognition of this week, California American Water is reminding its customers, community and local governments of the fundamental need for safe and reliable drinking water supplies and the vital role it plays in public health, fire protection, economic development and the overall quality of life we enjoy.
This year, California American Water is focusing on water conservation as the centerpiece of its Drinking Water Week campaign.
Despite heavy spring rains, California remains in a drought. This combined with other factors has made conservation a year-round necessity throughout the state, including Northern California.
"Preserving this precious resource has to be our first priority," said Andrew Soule, general manager of California American Water's northern division. "Over the past three years, we have invested millions of dollars on water infrastructure in our Sacramento service district from new mains to new well and treatment plants."
Comprehensive conservation measures, Soule said, are key to extending the limited supplies we have and preserving future economic growth and quality of life in the area.
"Our metered customers pay about a half-cent for every gallon of water delivered to their home or business," Soule said. "By providing a reliable water supply at a reasonable price we will ensure that families and businesses will continue to thrive here."
California American Water offers its customers a wide array of conservation programs. These include water saving tips and education, rebates, devices and home water audits that can help residents identify leaks and other water wasting problems at home.
