CalCPA Signs Up 40,000th Member; Remains Largest State CPA Association
SAN MATEO, Calif., May 1, 2012 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Just five years after achieving 30,000 members, the California Society of CPAs (CalCPA) has reached a record 40,000 members, strengthening its position as the nation's largest state association of certified public accountants.
Signing up as the 40,000th member is Katrina Carrizales, a manager at the Los Angeles office of PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP. Carrizales is receiving a lifetime CalCPA membership, a status normally reserved for members who reach 40 years as a dues-paying member. She also is eligible for up to 80 hours of free continuing professional education through the CalCPA Education Foundation.
In June, CalCPA will honor Carrizales at its annual council meeting, and she will be featured in CalCPA's member magazine, California CPA, discussing why she joined CalCPA.
"We're thrilled that Katrina has chosen to become a member of the California Society of CPAs," said Loretta Doon, CalCPA CEO. "By joining CalCPA, Katrina and other new members can network with fellow professionals, partake of excellent continuing professional education opportunities and gain valuable leadership skills."
"We knew it was an audacious goal," commented CalCPA Chair Ed Jordan, "but we also felt it was reachable and tremendously important. There's strength in numbers, and when you have an association of 40,000 people who want to connect, wonderful things can happen."
Carrizales, who received her CPA license in 2009, becomes a member of the Los Angeles Chapter, one of 14 chapters statewide that make up CalCPA. She also has joined CalCPA's Forensic Services Section.
CalCPA has several membership categories that include active CPAs, candidates for licensing, educators, students and associate members.
